Hi, We bought a 3 bed semi last year that had planning for a extension to the side. The more and more I think about it the more I would like to put a basement under the new part when we do it.
I am not sure how to go about this. We still need to get building regs done for the plans we have had passed and our aim is to do that this year and possibly start the foundations too. The rest will follow next year.
I have no idea how much any of this will cost. How do I go about finding out estimates for a basement? Would I have to get new plans drawn up including a basement, and then building regs done on those? I wouldn't want to spend lots of money to find out that we couldn't afford to include a basement.
I would appeaciate any help or advice

Hence;
" Yes ! , you should / would get / do it,well ! "
** [ While, you have to get new plans drawn up including a
basement, as the base step!.
** Then let, the building regs be done on those,well!
**Since,the approximate price for building ,
has been depended, to the regional cost evaluations;
containing of the components used, structure charges ,etc.
** In average,"say; per cubic ft. or sq.ft.", has been evaluated ,
about $ 100. to $200. per sq.ft. ;...,
For construction of the basement / or new extension plans.
** For a basement about 100.sq.ft, you have to evaluate ,
At least , [ sq.ft. 100 x $ 100 ] = ( $ 10,000.) indeed! .
**Since, may be some raising charges, burden
about 25% be included, too! ]. }.

The first thing you need to do is find out if the property ( the grade) and the existing house would allow for this.
The architect that did your drawings would probably be the best person to answer this or the person that surveyed the property before the architect did his work.
this is a big undertaking and you have to consider drainage, sewage on the property and power lines, etc.
