I'm trying to generate a list of all subdirectories that contain files that end in .i.
I used:
dir *.i /b /s %26gt; filename.txt
This produced a list of complete path names for every file with the .i extension. However, what I need is a list of only the subdirectories that contain files with that extension, instead of the full path name for each file.
I tried dir *.i /b /s /a:d %26gt; filename.txt
However, this didn't produce anything at all.

Are you sure that there are sub-directories with a .i suffix?
Your syntax looks fine and when I tried dir *.msi /b /s /a:d %26gt; filename.txt it found the hidden config.msi directory.
