No urgency on Johnson extension with Hendrick...?

Why?

Urgency might be a little dramatic to use.. but I would want this to happen NOW.. as opposed to say.. in 2009 or 2010? Why wouldnt you want to get this done NOW if you were Rick Hendrick?

Johnson (even though I'm not a fan) needs to have a contract like his little buddy Gordon. LIFETIME @ Hendrick! Hes that good.. just like Gordon.

So if its not big deal and everyone is happy.. Why doesnt Jimmie just sign the deal NOW? Extension..Lifetime..Whatever.. JUST DO IT..

There are probably things going on behind the scenes that the parties involved are waiting on to see what happens. No, it's doubtful that Johnson would ever leave Hendrick at this point, but you just never know. There are lots of little details that need attention during contract negotiations. As a two time defending Cup champ, Johnson might have a little more to bargain with now.

Rick Hendrick was quoted as saying that he has offered Jimmie a lifetime contract. There are deals all of the time made that are kept private, so I'm sure they have something worked up or Rick wouldn't have said what he did.
If he signs later Johnson will get More $$$$$$$$$$. I will say Jimmie Johnson will win the most races for HMS!!!!
There is no urgency because he's already signed through 2010. I suspect that Jimmie will win the most races for HMS again. No driver at HMS has won more races than Jimmie since 2002, his first full season. From then until now Jimmie has been had the most wins for them (2004, 2006 and 2007) 3 of the 6 years and tied with Jeff the other 3 years (2002, 2003 and 2005). I don't see Jr coming in and doing better than either of them, sorry.
He already said that Johnson has a LIFETIME contract, trust me, he's not going anywhere! GO JIMMIE!!!

Why?? he is signed already to 2010..whats the rush?? He has already been offered a lifetime contract, and the details are kept private. Theres plenty of time.. Now if by end 2009 season he has not signed a renewal then we will have something to talk about, why leave he is with the best, he will stay there till he retires just like Jeff and Dale Jr will do..When you are with the best, heck don't leave... I see Jimmie winning probably 5-6 races this yr, after all he has Jeff and Dale Jr and Casey.. HMS will again probably end up with the most wins.

It's similar to Tony Stewart's situation. Stewart's contract isn't up until after the 2009 season, not 2008 like most people seem to think. Johnson's isn't up until after 2010, There is no urgency because they have time to think about what they will want to do in two or three years. Go to another team? Retire? run a limited schedule? These are all options they may want to consider by the time it becomes necessary to sign a new contract.
There is no clear cut answer but the best answer for now would be Marketing.Jimmie is shopping around(his management team is surveying0 his talents to other teams to see what type contract he can work up.
